That sign name for our 44th President Barack Obama is cool

I just saw Gnorky’s vlog (my nickname for the vlogger named Gnarlydorkette) and think she has a great proposal. One of my friends and I happen to come as close as her. There are interesting similarities in several proposed ones. They start with the similar handshape ‘O’ and they all have the similar twisting movement that ends similarly with the handhape ‘B’. There are several relevant meanings behind these signs with a possibility for slight assimilation. I think I am seeing the apparently final one that does look great for our 44th President Barack Obama!

Someone out east told me that they use O and B and sign change with both letters.

I wonder if perhaps we will see several different Obama name signs for different regions/areas?

Some might prefer one over the other, but there might be one that ends up being “politically correct.” Thus, we might end up seeing several name signs instead of one.

  2. Picard90 Says:

Why not spell out President Obama’s name? It is only five letters long, and isn’t difficult to spell out quickly.

I have never seen deaf people give a sign name for President Bush. And if it were given, it is usually done in a derogatory manner.

So, tell me, why special treatment for President Obama?

  3. Anne Marie Baer Says:

Good point about giving a special treatment to be the President Obama. Honestly if you look at the waxwork impression of this great figure at the Madame Tussauds museum in England, an excellent waxwork of Barack Obama, this works is nothing compared to President Bush if you ever see it, he looks like a corpse.

The worst of all, if you look in the wikipedia, a relatively reliable source, a publishing binge, it ever hardly show off its waxwork of this birdy eyed bloke, It does not ever utter his name. How one can dare to proclaim this shame faced figure?..

    I think this suffices.

  4. Steve Brunelle Says:

You got it almost right. Now move it toward to chest meaning “AUDACITY”.
‘O’ + ‘AUDACITY = OBAMA. Not necessarily to touch the chest. Got it? Steve Brunelle

  5. Obama Says:

Sorry, I think everyone thinks that Obama will be a better president! How can you guys figure that out ? How can you guys figure that he is the person who will change it ? You gotta see him how he do it in 2 years before making some judgement.

I don’t agree about giving the sign to a hearie and ASS-U-ME that he is the person who will inspire people!

  6. Anne Marie Baer Says:

Lol.. people cannot wait to make a judgment and be optmistic. Look at how well he did his campaign and transition team, he really has been doing good.

His excellent responses and proactive stance are already an indication. :)

  7. RLM Says:

    Anne Marie,

Some people have good points how come didn’t we have name sign for GWB.

    Fingerspelling B-U-S-H is much easy.

Picardo90 is absolutely right about why didn’t we simply fingerspell OBAMA.

GWB probably will be vindicated later in the U.S. history for his questionable presidency. At least, GWB is absolutely right about no terrorist attacks happened after the 9/11. Give him some credits, too.

OBAMA Says said how true we rush to the judgement of Obama too soon without seeing what he have accomplish so far in his presidency and for our country.

JFK had been greatly idolized, but he was really the big-time failed president due to lack of legislative accomplishments. LBJ had to clean up his manures and accomplished to do the legislation passages.

In another word, JFK often had been overrated. At least, JFK brillantly done with the Bay of Pigs situation.

I do not get in any Obama mania/fever and just “wait and see”.

I do hope that Obama will be doing the good job as our POTUS! He always listen and check out the pulses of the American people.

Obama must get TOUGH with the Wall Street people and clean up the corruption and re-write the regulations and laws to keep those noses clean and honest.

No more two sets of books for every company, one financial reports for the shareholder and another financial report for the IRS!

Just one same book for shareholders and the IRS!

End the corporate tax havens in Grand Cayman islands or we have to invade that British-owned island to do the grand investigations of corporate holdings and bank account hideaways, etc.

Strengthen the government regulations on many things from foods to indoor air quality, etc.

Obama try too hard to please everyone. Let Obama be himself which he did let the gay marching group tommorow at the inaguarual parade for very first time in the U.S. history. Obama is really very liberal, but many GOPs rather see him govern moderate.

So Obama’s second term will be more liberal than ever.

“absolutely right”? I am fine with fingerspelled short names and also sign names if they are good too. For formal register i.e. presentation and classroom, I would more likely use fingerspelled name while use signed names for casual conversation.

Hey, don’t be cynical, we are going to improve considering how bad things really are, Obama including the majority already know what is the way to get better, that is mainly accountability and more for middle and lower income people.

There are already plenty of terrorism everywhere after 9/11. I do not agree with “America not being attacked after that day”. Our soldiers and journalists were killed in non-combat zones. We still always have to think of security here and everywhere.

  9. BR Says:

If having a name sign is an honor and sign of respect, then there’s no reason why every US president deserves one.

Bush 43, who was a candidate in 1999-2000,
established “W” as his sign name. He literally
handshaped “W” as his ID. In turn, hearing
people like NYT’s journalists wrote “W” in
a bold font on ed-op pages in reference
    to Bush 43.

  12. DeafThumbsupLopez Says:

    Hey Anne,

    Thumbs up!
I always use “O” for Obama in sign. Oh yes, Obama is a cool person. He’s very smart and way better than Bush because Bush is a boy! I am off for the MLK holiday and I requested off work to watch the Inauguration. My wife and I will watch Obama and record it so my kids can watch it after school.
I hope people will remember this when Jeb runs…..
    Thanks,

  13. Silent Red Wolf Says:

I won’t give Obama Sign name yet, wait till after one year to see how he do. Good or Bad. I kindly don’t trust him, why? Remember he want Rich people pay tax as other middle and poor classes, that his talk during running for president but now he is election-president and he said he will give rich people a tax break. D-people are shock and upset. Obama can change mind. So just wait one year and you can decide to give sign name. Good night.

  14. RLM Says:

    Jean Boutcher and others,

I completely forgot about GWB gave the hand sign “W”, but deaf people never take his own creation up at all.

    Silent Red Wolf,

Obama is being realistic and pragmatic like letting individuals with $250,000+ income not paying higher taxes due to the economic conditions. He rather let the tax cuts law go lapse by 2010 and let those indivduals to deal with the current state of economy. Very pragmatic and logical approach!

Every of us usually make promises that we fail to deliver. Don’t we?

If you are very knowledgeable about the pre-Reagan tax rates and Clinton tax rates. You would understand much better than slinging off at Obama. He is most realistic and pragmatic national leader ever I seen in very long time.

Obama’s promises never etched in stone permanently. Just give Obama some slacks and room to breathe.

One thing, I am kinda disappointed with Obama’s selection of the SEC chief like an insider of the SEC, not an outsider with brazen and gutsy approach.

FDR chose Joe Kennedy, the legitimate thief in his own ways as the first SEC to catch other thiefs and cheaters.

Hopefully, Obama will replace his choice of SEC chief in timely manner and appoint someone, who is very unscruplous and vicious to track down the Wall Street corruption beneath the depth.

    Hi Anne Marie,

Excuse me, I would like to comment to RLM.
    Thank you.

    Hey RLM,
I really LOVE what you said. It’s so true!
My wife, my friends and I hate that Obama chose Rick Warren to give the invocation. If Obama wanted to be inclusive, he could have chosen another Baptist/Christian minister that was NOT anti-gay. I wish he would’ve made a better choice.
We also don’t like his choice of Sanjay Gupta for Surgeon General. Ever since I saw Gupta get into it with Michael Moore on CNN when they were discussing Moore’s documentary, Sicko, I have felt no respect for the doctor. He either has a lack of understanding about what universal health care could be, or he just wanted to challenge Moore for the ratings. Either way, I have no use for him. Again I wish the choice would’ve been a better one.
It seems like Obama was going for a popular (or maybe celebrity is the better word) person.
Hopefully the remainder of his picks will be better.
I do really like that Obama has ordered an immediate suspension of federal agencies implementing Bush’s policies until they’ve been reviewed. That should stop some of the crap that’s been going on for the last 8 years. At least it’s a good start.
    Thanks for sharing,
    Bobby

    Anne Marie,

Many thanks for letting us use your comment forum to share our thoughts and concerns, etc.

    Bobby Lopez,

I missed out on Rick Warren’s invocation because no captions on the MAC TV attached to the HDTV set. Someone finally figured out how to put captions.

Well, I am gay myself. I kinda admire Obama’s shrewdness for having Rick Warren to lead the invocation. So Obama could put the leash on Warren in near future and silence the Religious Right.

The Obama inagurual committee apologized for HBO to miss out on gay Espoclian priest’s pre-inaguarual prayer last Sunday which weren’t intentional.

There was the gay marching group for the inaguarual parade for very first time in the U.S. history to have that group marched in front of the new President.

President Bill Clinton did have the same gay marching group played for him, but not marched along the parade.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on Sanjay Gupta, the new Surgeon General.

My bet on Gupta. He will quit in few months! Just wait and see!

I will watch the Sicko documentary someday. Thanks agan, Bobby Lopez. :)

  17. Anne Marie Baer Says:

Absolutely. Thanks for some chewy cassis to it.

  18. DeafThumbsupLopez Says:

    Hey RLM,

The invocation was okay. I was sorry to have missed Gene Robinson’s prayer, but I don’t have HBO and would not have seen it anyway. I enjoyed the entire inauguration and thought Obama’s speech was very pointed.
We’ll see about Gupta. You should check out SICKO. It’s a good film.

    Thanks for sharing,
    Thumbs up!!! ;-D
    Bobby

  19. RLM Says:

    Bobby Lopez,

Yep, Obama didn’t waste any time on his inaguaral speech. He got to the point and expressed his thoughts.

Obama keep watching out for anything slighty incorrect like John Roberts’ fluxs with “I faithfully execute ..” and not amused when VP Biden joked about the “do-overs”.

Obama is not dumb at all. He know that some people would do anything to discredit Obama like “I faithfully execute …”
